If I should be signing on, and how to do it.?

I'm just finished university, and I do have temporary work lined up for the summer, so I would only be signing on for 2 weeks, while the rota is being agreed. I'm usually the first person to say I'd never sign on unless I truly need it and hate how some people abuse the system, but it's come to the point where my parents are supporting me and I would like to give them the money for my food/board as they are being left out of pocket too. What do I do to claim "the dole"?
