Landlord's agent trying to evict because of a personal favor?

my landlord received moneys from her agent who volunteered by offering to pay a months rent for me. now the following month she did it again without me knowing. when i tried to pay the rent she (agent) sent the money back to my house. so i called the landlord to set up a drop off directly to her. she tells me that the agent already paid her. now the agent filed for eviction. IS THIS LEGAL???
